Wow! I guess we didn't realize what we were getting ourselves into when we adopted a new kitty... not that we regret it... we just think we should've been smarter.
Bailey came home with fleas, as we knew she probably would. Getting rid of them is a huge process... but I think we're doing it! We read online that we could kill them with dish soap and warm water. And it's working. The doctor said to do that daily or every other day and it would work. We also had to frontline Sydney, our 6 yr old cat, so he doesn't get the fleas. We will be able to frontline Bailey when she's 8 weeks old.
Because Bailey was a stray, the doctor suggested that we test her for FIV (like HIV in cats) and also for Kitty Leukemia. I told her that we didn't test Sydney, and that we most likely wouldn't test Bailey... even if they tested positive, we would keep the cats thru the illness. But the doctor said that if one of them has it, they can pass it on thru grooming and biting each other. So we will have to get the cats tested.
Bailey has to be at least 8 weeks old before we test her. I'm thinking we'll test Sydney this week.
I wonder if BOTH cats are positive for it, if we can just keep them both. But if only one cat tests positive, we most likely will have to find a new home for Bailey.
So that's my drama. I feel sad for not thinking about it sooner. But I'm just trusting that everything will work out.
