I got a couple comments on my last blog post on ideas for what I can blog about. I also got a couple comments off my blog for more ideas! So I will try to answer all of them. :) (I feel like a celebrity!)
How is your Bible study going?
Well, it all depends which one we're referring to. Yes, I am part of two studies now. I am doing one study (in a smaller group of friends) about serving others. It has been very slow going- we haven't been very good at being routine about meeting. It's hard with busy schedules and everything. So the study itself it pretty good... it's just not very consistent.
I'm also in a Beth Moore study of Esther. This is with some women from my church as well as some women from Elgin Community Church. We meet regularly (every Tuesday night) and I enjoy the consistency of it as well as the study. The study is amazing and I'm learning so much! I enjoy being around all those wonderful women each week too!
Thrift Store Finds:
Ooh! One of my favorite things to talk about!!! :) I recently went "thrifting" with my mom. I scored an Arthur video (49 cents) for my nieces to watch at my house. I also got an Arthur puzzle (99 cents)! Hmmm... a new (unopened) package of Christmas (cloth) napkins ($1.60), Lisa Frank horse stationary ($1.99) for my niece, Laurel, who is now my new pen-pal, tons of Junie B. Jones books for Little M (her birthday is coming up!)- each 22 cents, and some other books for less than a dollar a piece!
I have to tell you, since I'm sort of on the topic, about some other great deals I got! Little M wanted doll clothes for her birthday. I found some on Craigslist (10 pieces) for $5! It included 3 soft doll blankets and a baby doll too! Then, a freecycler gave me about 4-5 American Girl (sized) outfits for Little M's Target version of the American Girl Dolls. :) FOR FREE! I was so excited!!!
Weren't you looking into redecorating your house?
Sort of. I wanted to redo my dining room, but my husband wasn't as excited about my ideas as I was. I think for now we'll keep it like it is, unless I come up with another wonderful idea that he likes.
We are going to be redoing our bedroom though! That's been on hold because of my health. (The pain in my abdomen hinders me from bending and stretching... so I'm unable to paint.) I am excited, though, about this project! We just need one more can of paint and we can go to it!!! I have everything else for it! Jeffrey even helped pick out the bedding and stuff! :) Can't wait!
(In regards to Christmas:) What are your favorite songs, stories, best ever gift, failed gift, or what makes Christmas the best for you?
My favorite Christmas songs are: Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, Silent Night, Oh Holy Night, Carol of the Bells, Let It Snow, In the First Light, Little Town, All Is Well, Mary Did You Know... (is that enough?)
Of course my favorite Christmas story is the true story of Jesus' birth. :)
The best gift? The best Christmas gift I've ever gotten or ever given? Hmmm... Gotten: my digital camera. :) Given: I honestly have no clue... I have a feeling it's humorous, though. ;)
The failed gift: I would say was last year... we drew names in my family and Jeffrey had Matt's name. Matt wanted a unicycle, and we thought that was too funny. So we found an old, beat up one on Craigslist for him. Come to find out- his siblings pitched in and got him a really nice one... brand new! So our gift was sort of a failure. Everybody did think it was funny, though. :)
What makes Christmas best for me: Family. But it isn't Christmas without the truth of Jesus Christ, my Savior, being born. :) (Oh, and side note- I really like snow on Christmas.)
How to teach the Good Samaritan story (and make it fill up more time): I agree with Tina- acting it out is great. Talking about the lesson they are to learn from it as well. Application- how can you help somebody out? Have you ever had a time when you helped somebody out?
I loved Tina's comments, too, about quizzes or two truths and a lie. :) I will probably use those down the road (maybe soon, so stay tuned!).
Sometimes acting out the good samaritan is a good idea... and you can say, "Puff! I have too many things to do!!!" JK. I like this post. It's fun and random!!!!
ReplyDeleteactually, i had already planned to act it out and talk about it, but when i did that last time, i was trying to think of time fillers at the end. THIS time, i was faced with a bit of a catch-22: the lady doing music with them before me did a super fun game (kind of rowdy, actually). in a way it was good because everyone was already paying attention and her time took up a little bit of mine. BUT, it was rowdy enough to be a let down to just do stupid costumes (which wouldn't have been stupid if they weren't so riled up) and act out a scripture story. oh well! it's over and it's not my turn for two more weeks!
