Yesterday was an adventurous day. Jeff and I went with my mom to drive around farm land, Illinois. (No, it's not a town- it's all the farm towns that are near to us.) We had a lot of fun. We stopped at farm stands and other random farms for brown eggs (Mom says they're delicious), home-grown honey (is that what you'd call it?), and veggies (squash, beets, and something else).
We also stopped at an estate sale in a house that was probably 10 times as big as mine. It had a huge master bedroom that I'm pretty sure my entire house could fit into. The master bathroom had a water fall and a jacuzzi tub. And the bedroom had a HUGE walk in closet. And just past the closet was another room- maybe a nursery room or something? There were still 3 other bedrooms upstairs and one down stairs. The furniture (that's what they were selling) was all beautiful and very high-end. We couldn't even afford it at an estate sale. I saw a very beautiful bistro set... $200. That's about $150 more than I'd even consider paying.
We also stopped at some antique shops out in the middle of nowhere. It's funny what is antique now. I grew up with several things I saw there. And I had fun dreaming while I was there- dreaming of some ideas of what to do to my house to give it more character. I'm so lacking in the creativity department. I can dream, but I usually can't create. But we'll see. I have some ideas. We just have to hope we can slide them past Jeffrey.
But the trip also got me thinking about my dream house... Jeff and I were laying in bed last night talking about it. (I think he mostly listened and might have been falling asleep). We talked about what we want in our dream house. And really- our dream house is probably just your average home. Some things we listed were: central air, a finished basement, dish washer, patio/deck, outside grill (we don't have one that works), a dog (Jeff wants a German Shepherd and I named him Monty last night), a barn with kitties (that was my idea and Jeff didn't like it... but if he gets his dog, I can have my barn kitties), wrap around front porch (with a porch swing or rocking chairs- or both), four bedrooms, master bathroom (nothing fancy- just a bathroom)... this house is going to be in the country. It might take us awhile to get our dream house... it might even have to wait until he retires. But one day we'll get there.
That sounds a lot like the house I used to want! Even the barn kitties. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm housesitting in a house where the master bedroom has a two story closet with it's own washer and dryer. I like your dream house better.
ReplyDeleteMy dream house would have a fireplace, finished basement (that doesn't flood), and I'd love a window seat to use as a reading nook. I've also always wanted the huge bookcases they have in Ikea--but I'd need 10 foot ceilings.
ReplyDeleteI think you should be allowed a kitten barn. I'll come visit!
