On Wednesday night, we got a lot of the storms that Chicago had- only we were in Indiana/Michigan. We were closely watching the weather on the TV in our hotel room, and suddenly, they lost the satellite there. We went out into the lobby, to watch the storm better and to listen for any sirens. I wasn't freaking out, but probably if we were at home I would've been.
In the lobby, we met two ladies- sisters! (One of the ladies reminded me of my Auntie Karla- and I think that's why I felt so comfortable talking with her...) They were traveling with their husbands for their 50th anniversaries. (They had a double wedding!!!) We talked with them about where we were from in Illinois and they told us about where they were from in Pennsylvania. They told us to go out there sometime when we get the chance- Jeff would love the history and I'd love the Amish. (Not a bad idea, actually.)
But then it came down to them asking us why we were visiting the area. Just hours prior, I had told Jeffrey that I didn't want to talk about the adoption to or with anybody. I was pretty sure I'd burst into tears if I had to talk about it. So I looked at Jeff and he didn't offer any words- at least not quickly enough. So I turned back to the sweet ladies and told them we were getting away for awhile- to be alone- because we had been planning to adopt a baby that was just born on Monday... but his birth mom changed her mind. The ladies looked so sad and repeatedly said "I am so so sorry." We continued talking about how it wasn't meant to be, and that God has a bigger a plan for us. They got very excited to talk about God- so they asked if the agency was a Christian agency. We explained it all to them and they asked what church we were from and told us the type of church they were from. After a little while, the Auntie Karla lady asked if she could pray for us. We told her that of course she could. So right there, in the hotel lobby (people coming and going, the receptionist watching us...) we all joined hands and the sweet lady prayed for us, our marriage, for the birth mom and baby, and for our future baby. We all hugged each other good night and headed back to our rooms. As we walked away, that lady said "We'll see you in Heaven!"
I don't know if they were angels. Or maybe just a special gift from God- that they'd be so calm and friendly and also encouraging. What a blessing, though, to have that thrown into our trip of wanting to be away from phone calls, emails, and people asking us a thousand questions. God is so cool.
That is amazing! God is good.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Sarah. God IS so cool. Man. Even in the storm.
