When Jeff and I were dating, we agreed to not celebrate Valentine's Day or any other "Hallmark" holiday. It just seems superficial or something. Shouldn't we be celebrating our love every single day? Yes. My thoughts exactly. (Ha ha ha...)
BUT! After getting married and wanting to find reasons to do cute and silly things for each other, we kind of started "celebrating" it. We don't really do cards, but sometimes funny gifts or candy or something. One year I got Jeff a dancing hamster, wearing a black leather jacket, that had blond hair. She sang "I Know What Guys Want." It's really stupid, but it made him laugh. I stopped getting it out with our Valentines things last year because it was annoying (and embarrassing when kids would play with it).
To celebrate Valentine's day this year, I decided to share some deep dark secrets with you about my honey! (Don't worry... I'm sure he'd be okay with it.) But here's the deal! I wanna see YOU repost these on YOUR blogs for me (and others) to read. Got it?
Our First Kiss
Jeff kissed me for the first time in a McDonald's parking lot. Seriously. It was just that romantic, huh? We had run out for some late food after SCF and Upper Room (two things we regularly participated in on Tuesdays), but McDonald's was closed, so we sat in the parking lot discussing what we should do. Suddenly, he just kissed me! My response? "You didn't ask me first before you did that." And his reply? He kissed me again. LOL!
First Time He Said "I Love You"
It actually was on paper. It was on my birthday... two days prior to the first kiss... LOL! We were playing a game of Hangman (yes, we really did play this game, we were weird). His "puzzle" was supposed to say something like "Uh-oh! I'm in love with Sarah Rugh." But as I started to figure it out, I kinda freaked out. I asked him if it really said what I thought it did. He asked me what I thought I said. I told him that I wasn't gonna say it, but I was pretty sure he knew. After going back and forth about it, he got embarrassed and scribbled out the word "love." LOL! Silly man. It's all good... I told him it was okay to love me. It's hard not to, right!?!
How He Proposed
It was his birthday, on a Wednesday. He really wanted to go to Navy Pier for his birthday, and I was throwing a big stink about it... saying it's not fair because it's a work night for me, that I had to get up early for work the next day. Why couldn't we wait to go on Saturday!?! I know he wanted to see the fire works, and they only did them on Wednesday and Saturdays... so it would be just fine to postpone. He insisted that it be one the day of his actual birthday. I remember complaining to my parents about it. They both told me just to be a nice girlfriend and go with him... so I did. Come to find out, he planned to propose on his birthday, during fire works, at Navy Pier. :) The funny part? He did not plan to do it while "MmmBop" was playing, but he did. LOL!
Honeymoon
We went to Bailey's Harbor in Door County, Wisconsin for our honeymoon. It was supposed to be romantic and wonderful, but it wasn't. Our room was a little bit "white-trashy" but still private, with a beautiful view, a whirlpool hot tub, fire place, and right in the center of the town. The night we got there, it was totally dark and nobody was there to help us find our room... so we were walking around outside in the dark and I slipped and fell, totally bruising up my leg. Great start to a wonderful week... It rained the entire week and it was too chilly to really do anything. So no, we didn't go biking, hiking, or horseback riding as we planned. :( We did a lot of staying in and watching TV by the fireplace. We ate out all the time, which was fun. We did go fishing (I broke the line, so it didn't last long). We walked on the beach. Ya know... small things to make it memorable.
Okay... what about YOU?
Hey! Your mom and dad's first kiss was in a restaurant parking lot, too! But I think permission was sought first. :>)
