Goodbye Ice Cream!

I just read my sister, Jessica's, blog. Wow. That woman never ceases to amaze me. See for yourself:

As she mentioned, our pastor did challenge/encourage us to fast from something this week and he also asked us to think of one specific thing to be praying about while fasting. I knew exactly what I needed to pray about, and I also knew exactly what I needed to fast from... ice cream!

Whether or not I feel like I need it, I find myself going into the freezer almost every evening to grab some ice cream. Sometimes I'll even be eating it and think "What am I doing? I took waaaaaaaaaaay too much." Or "It's cold in here, why the ice cream tonight?" There are a number of odd things that I think about after the fact. So it's sort of something I just get used to, I guess.

Not only did I give up ice cream, but I gave up all frozen treats- Popsicles, freezer pops, shakes, etc... I thought to myself, "Okay- this might be kinda hard, but it won't be too hard. And even if it is, it will remind me to pray."

Weeeelllllllll... guess what? I went over and above myself this time. On Sunday, after I had made this fasting and praying plan, I asked God to make it hard for me this week. I asked Him to provide plenty of times when I'd want ice cream and I have to say no.

And He has.

It has been a little warmer this week than it has been lately. Warmer weather makes me want ice cream.

I had made plans to go out with a friend for ice cream today. Oops! We are changing our plans, and guess what? I will even get a chance to explain to her why!

Date night was last night, and guess where Jeff wanted go? Mmmhmm...

Colonial Cafe has 50cent ice cream cones this entire month.

So it goes...

...and so I pray!

And I even pray for my specific request when I'm laying in bed, or when I'm cleaning the bathroom, or any other random time! I don't limit it to times when I want ice cream... I try to pray for it without ceasing!

So... this friend I'm seeing today... funny story...

A few weeks ago, out of the blue, a "little" girl's name popped into my head. I have no idea why or how. This "little" girl was a girl that was in the after school program that I worked at just out of high school. She was in 2nd or 3rd grade at the time (I can't remember!). Her mom was a single mom, and she asked me to do some babysitting outside of the program. And I did! I babysat for this little girl and her sister on a few occasions.

Anyway; after her name popped into my head, I thought I'd look her up on Facebook. (Ahh... that's a wonderful place, if you have not yet tried it!) Lo and behold- there she was! I sent her a message and she quickly replied and added me as a friend. We've been keeping in touch ever since. And she asked me if we could hang out! So that's where I'm heading today- to go out with her. I am excited to see what she's been up to and what she is like now.

Isn't life funny?
