My grandma LOVES Charles Stanley. I think that is one reason she quickly fell in love with my husband- he too loves Charles Stanley. It was one of Stanley's messages that led Jeffrey to the realization of his need for a Savior.
Grandma would (still does?) study and study Stanley... daily. I thought this was pretty profound, because he was so important to her. She never told me he was divorced. I just found this out from a friend today.
Okay... don't get me wrong... I am not condemning him for being divorced. All sin is equal in God's eyes. So Stanley's divorce is just as wrong, but not more wrong, than my gossip habits.
I just couldn't believe it! How does a man that studies the Word so much end his marriage like this? I don't get it. I really just don't get it! If he's the one we're supposed to be looking to for answers, how does something like this happen?
Anyway; the church (FBA members) voted to keep him as pastor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Stanley_(evangelist) ). This was several years ago, though... it's only a newsflash for me. But anyway... I'm glad he's still allowed to preach. Because he is the one that I credit to helping my husband turn his life around... even before he was my husband. :)
