I woke up really cranky yesterday. I didn't feel well, and I had a full agenda. I sort of let myself fall into a funk, rather than trying to pull myself out of it. But two of my things to do were (1) to take and pick up Grandpa from his Alzheimer's day care and (2) pick Little M up from school and watch her til 9pm.
On the way home with Grandpa, I asked how his day was. Sometimes he is very grouchy and complains a lot about everything. Yesterday, he mumbled something about "Everybody was messin' around." Uh-oh! I was worried that he'd tell me all these horrible things that all the other Alzheimer's patients did. It can be very confusing to be surrounded by people that are "memory impaired"... especially if you are too! Poor, Grandpa. But I asked him what he meant by that. He kind of sighed and smiled. "Well, I think since it was such a nice day out, everybody was shedding off the fall season and just enjoying the spring day. We were all really laid back today, no hard work, and lots of fun and being silly." That made me smile. How cute! In case I failed to tell you, Grandpa thinks he works at this day care. He thinks he's there to counsel the people there. Some days he tells me that they really worked him. Other days, they let him relax a little bit. Too cute!
Last night, Little M and I started putting together a Mother's Day gift for her mom. I had ordered some pictures of her (that I had taken), and we bought frames to frame them. I failed to take pictures of this very adorable event. Little M wrapped the gift all by herself. She did a great job! Lots of tape was used, but that's just to keep it all in place. The doorbell rang as she was finishing up. She ran into the other room with the gift, so as to hide it from her mom. The door bell was my dad. So, she spent a couple more minutes primping her gift and hiding it in the kitchen. (We had talked about how it was surprise and that we'd save it for Sunday... so don't tell Mom about it.) For those of you that might not know, my bathroom is off of my kitchen. So, then the doorbell rang again, and she ran to get the door. The first words out of her mouth were "Mom, do you have to go to the bathroom?" She wanted her mom to find the gift!!! So, her mom said sure, she'd go to the bathroom. Then, Little M walked in there with her mom and stopped in front of her... then pointed to the gift in the corner of the kitchen. TOO FUNNY! Of course, Little M made her mom open it that very minute.
Life is fun and very funny. At least I had Grandpa and Little M yesterday to make me smile!
