Country Living!

Oh, Those Country Treasures!

I’d trade my city sidewalks for a lane with a country view,
And for every newspaper I’ve read, I’d trade ‘em for a chitchat chew!

I’d trade my streets for fields of flowers
To dance in under the moon;
And to witness a beautiful sunrise-
I’d trade all the hours I’ve slept till noon!

I’d trade my stoop for an old shade tree
Where I could settle and ponder-
So many things that I’d give up to cast my worries yonder!

I’d trade my loaves of mass-bakes bread for a single brick of yeast-
And I’d share all the goodies that I baked myself
By calling on family and friends to feast!

And if only I could patch a quilt of hearts,
I’d trade my store-bought three
So generations of family to come will always remember me!

I’d trade off every tailored dress for jeans and barefoot days
So I could stroll through miles of wildflowers
And smell the summer glades!

Then when this wish has come to pass and gone are city treasures
I’d rest content for here at last
Are life’s most sought-out pleasures…
