I honestly don't know. As I mentioned before- my parents never "lied" to us about Santa. So I never had that problem. And my nieces all know that Santa isn't real... so I don't have to lie about that to them either. If I lie at all, it's just small lies like "Yes, Santa can fit into your house." Or "Yes, Santa will be able to get into your house even though you don't have a chimney."
Although, this question today was inspired by something my younger sister said/did to a little girl we both nannied/babysat for in our college years. Molly? Care to enlighten us? ☺
