My not having a job comes in handy in situations like these- no schedules to rework or bosses to contact.
Jessica hasn't been feeling well, so I didn't want her to do the trip alone. And Molly has been going through a lot lately, so I really wanted to go give her squeezes for myself. And I had planned to go visit Matt and Molly in June/July... but Jeff and I had gotten news about a baby and stayed home instead. So all that to say- of course I went to Texas with Jessica and her girls!!!
Matt and Molly were wonderful hosts. They both cook like you'd never believe!!! And they showed us some neat places around where they live. (Their bed was super cozy- they shared it with us!) The house they live in belongs to Tech team (where they work- as missionaries). They rent it right now. They also are house parents for an intern that is working at Tech team as well. We got to spend time with her (the intern), which was fun too.
Molly invited Jessica and me to sing with her in church on Sunday. Singing is hard for me (with my abdomen issues), and I was so nervous... But I just pushed through all that and enjoyed singing a GREAT song I had just learned (it's now on my play list- "What Do I Know of Holy" by Addison Road) with my sisters!
The church they attend is much different from the one I attend, and it was a bit of culture shock for me (in a good way). First off- they don't have rows of pews/chairs like we do... they have a few rows of chairs but then they also have tables set up with chairs around it. The praise team sings off to the side (as does the special music), which I really liked... that way people are worshipping without the distraction of watching people. Most of the women didn't wear skirts or dresses- in fact- the majority of the congregation wore jeans! We rarely have that at our church... maybe a handful of people will wear jeans on a given Sunday. The pastor even wore a t-shirt and jeans! And he didn't stand at a pulpit as I'm used to. He stood next to a dry erase board and wrote down important words and drew diagrams too! The pastor didn't do the scripture reading nor did he do the prayer... the people of the church did these things!!! It was so neat to see that! Over all- the experience was soooooo different than what I was used to. But I really liked it.
