I need your help. Yes- you.
Jeffrey feels like he is being called into the ministry (of some sort). I would completely agree with him on that. I have rarely met a man with heart so on fire for the lost and somebody with such enormous wisdom on God's truths and His word.
One idea he had, which we're not sure is quite a "calling" yet or not... was joining the army. The "plan" would be to work for the army while taking classes to be a chaplain. Once a chaplain, Jeffrey would probably stay in the army to be an army chaplain.
This isn't some crazy idea that he just mentioned to me last night or something. It's real. We even met with an army recruiter back in May. Jeff took the initial test to see if he'd even get in- and he passed. They're ready to take Jeff away and have him totally sign his life (3-4 year of it) away. For God's glory? For president Obama to control?
I totally don't know how to feel about this. We met with Pastor Elliott (our pastor, friend, and a wonderful counselor)... he advised Jeff to wait until (a) the adoption was over (well... that's over, and didn't even happen), (b) I felt like God was calling Jeff to the army (still praying about it), and (c) things in life (in general) calmed down.
Like I said... I know he is being called into the ministry... I just don't know how or where right now. But he is so set on the army.
So here's your part... PLEASE either leave me a comment or email me with your thoughts and feelings on this. Be polite, be honest, and be loving. Because this is seriously a HUGE thing for us. I just need feedback right now. I don't care who you are or how we know each other... please give us feedback.
Your other part in this? Please be praying for Jeff and for me as we seek God's will... not our own, but HIS will.

When I talked to Billy about it, he said, "I can see Jeff doing that."
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing for Jeff that he feels a calling to do something and that he is open to that calling. I know many people are waiting to know what God wants them to do with their lives and feel no such calling.
ReplyDeleteScary - yes. Are you uncertain because it's the army? If he said he want to be a missionary for a Christian organization would it be easier to support? Personally, I think it's awesome when someone steps up in service to our country (and not as a last resort)
We will be praying for your decisions. We love you both!

So for the last several days I've been really agonizing over what to write here, since you asked me to. :)
ReplyDeleteI keep reading great quotes to insert, but they're all from the same book, so can I recommend a book?
Reading "Crazy Love" might be a rewarding endeavor. It has been for me.
I love you so much... You are such a brave sister.
