Remember yesterday's post about it being "one of those days?" Well... it was.
It started off with the room temp chicken and potatoes.
But then, I went to run some errands (And really- they were for good causes! I found Jeff a heavier winter coat at the thrift store, I delivered meals to a friend, I dropped toys off at ECDC for their Christmas store, and I mailed our Christmas cards...) and when I attempted to get into my mom's car (I'm borrowing), the driver's side door would not open. So, being the smart girl that I am, I went around and got the passenger side open, started the car, and waited a little while... ...door still wouldn't open. Oh well... I'm small enough... I crawled through from the passenger side. I might have looked funny... especially since I did this at nearly every stop I made. Finally, the lock unfroze and I was able to get in and out of driver's side door. Whew! That was a close one!
A couple hours later, Jeff woke me from my nap (UGH! Don't you hate it when that happens!?!) by calling and calling and calling my cell phone. Come to find out, I had miswritten (is that a word???) the mortgage check and he needed to find out what I actually did wrong. Fail. I don't even want to tell you what I did wrong. I'm too embarrassed. I think he's got it all figured out and straightened out now... and I also don't think I'll be writing the mortgage check anymore. As we say in my family... that's a wah... wah wah wah.
Well, as long as I'm awake, I might as well get a head start and go get Little M from school. So I thought. I got into the car and drove away. Hmmm... my driver's side door wasn't totally shut. I slammed it. Nope. Nothing. It kept bouncing back away from me. Well, this is stupid. I held onto the door as tightly as I could and kept driving. Turning corners was super tricky... I got to the gas station, fiddled with the silly door, and gave up. I called my dad and told him that I had no clue why, but the door would not close. I turned around and met my dad back at my house.
Two hours later... I was picking Little M up from school, rushing home (in HORRIBLE traffic), making a quick supper (hot dogs- yuck!), and then running right back out the door to get to choir practice. (My dad had taken me to get Jeff's car... it saved the day... besides the fact that Mom's car sat in my driveway with door open. Blah.)
Don't worry. Mom and Jessica reminded me of the solution to this open door problem. Yes. This has happened before. And yes, there's a solution. I don't want to talk about it anymore. Especially because I suddenly recalled having this problem last year... and I feel very silly and stupid for forgetting all about it.
Good news? The only car trouble today is that Mom BADLY needs new wiper blades. I was looking through a small patch of clear window this morning when I took Little M to school. And the other good news? Daddy's going to fix the wipers.
Whew! I told you... I saw it coming!
Wow! Big day! Have you ever read C.S. Lewis' "The Horse and His Boy?" Your blog post today reminds me of a major part of it when the boy is talking to Aslan about how he is the "most unfortunate boy." It's my favorite part, because Aslan is walking next to the boy as he rides a horse, and they're talking... but the boy can't see Aslan due to this horrible fog. The next day the boy retraces his steps and sees that he had been riding at the edge of a very steep cliff that he couldn't see in the fog, and Aslan was keeping him from the falling off the edge. I just thought it was amazing symbolism of how dreadful sometimes we feel about our circumstances, but often God is keeping them within our coping ability. I guess that's grace! :D
ReplyDeleteHope tomorrow is a fun day, though, with safe, closed doors! :)
