Chosen of God

The sermon on Sunday was taken from Colossians 3. I loved it, so today for my "quiet time," after I prayed, I went back over my sermon notes and then I read Colossians 3 again.

I don't have a very good memory. But when I was reading Colossians 3, I remembered that we were challenged (in our college Sunday school class... back in the day) to memorize this portion of scripture. Jeff and I memorized it and it was so exciting to have "accomplished" that. I am not good at memorization. And I tend to get frustrated with myself when I don't remember it or when I can't remember it. I was so excited that even though I was unable to recite Colossians 3, I did remember memorizing it once. And reading it today was so cool, because I really reflected on what it meant.

Colossians 3 talks about being chosen of God. If we are not of God, we are living in the ways of the world. But if we are living for God, then we live for Him and because we know we have a home beyond this earth. I love any parts of the Bible that remind me of that. But here's what I wrote down this morning:

Behavior of somebody that has been chosen of God:
* Compassionate
* Kind
* Humble
* Gentle
* Patient
* Stands by others (no matter what)
* Forgiving
* Loving
* Peaceful
* Thankful

It's going to be part of my new year's resolution to practice being these things. I would ask any of you to help keep me accountable, okay?
